Hotels

There’s something about the hotel experience that, even on a budget, feels premium. It’s why even affordable hotels refer to their customers as “guests.” As a hospitality industry professional, your number one goal is to make guests feel welcome.

Cleanliness is one of the most important parts of that task. Guests always remember a gross bathroom, or stained bedsheets, or weird odors. For both their sake and for your reputation, cleanliness is a must. During peak season, you also have to move quickly to turn rooms over for new guests.

Cleaning

Your primary focus is likely your guest rooms. Your housekeepers should at least be equipped with the following:

  • A heavy-duty all-purpose cleaner for tiled floors
  • Glass cleaner for bath fixtures and windows
  • A sanitizer for all high-touch surfaces, such as switches and faucets
  • Toilet bowl cleaner
  • Furniture polish
  • An air freshener or odor remover, ideally one safe for upholstery

Bigger hotels with areas like gyms, business rooms, and conference areas will also want to invest in large-scale cleaning equipment such as scrubbers and floor machines.

Disinfection

Hotels are easy places for viruses to spread, especially on high-touch surfaces. Make sure that your housekeepers are prepared to disinfect:

  • Light switches
  • Elevator buttons
  • ATMs and drink machines
  • Credit card readers
  • Workout equipment

It’s important to note the importance of disinfecting surfaces rather than just sanitizing them. Some experts even recommend disinfecting your floors as part of a regular cleaning routine, as they can be hotspots for germs.

You’ll also want to keep hand sanitizer available in common areas, especially during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
